India's BSNL to Launch 3G Network in Jan 2009

India's state owned mobile operator, BSNL will launch its 3G network in the north-eastern states and chennai by January 2009, Communications and IT Minister A Raja has announced. The second state owned network to have a 3G license, MTNL is still on target to launch its 3G network in Delhi and Mumbai.  more

Indian Regulator Orders Tariff Changes

India's regulator, TRAI has issued an order to the mobile network operators in the States of Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal and Uttar Pradesh not to charge differential tariffs for calls terminating in BSNL network and other service providers networks. Following a license amendment, calls between Mumbai Metro & Maharashtra Telecom Circle, chennai Metro & Tamil Nadu Telecom Circle, Kolkata Metro & West Bengal Telecom Circle and UP (East) & UP (West) Telecom Circle Service Areas were treated as intra-service area calls for the purpose of call routing and levy of ADC. more
