SK Telecom 3rd-Quarter Profits Jump 25%

­South Korea's SK Telecom  has reported a 5.4% rise in third-quarter revenues to KRW 3.057 trillion (US$2.57 billion), while operating income rose by 22.7% to KRW 618.8 billion. Net income reached KRW 415.9 billion (US$350 million), growing by 24.7% year-on-year and 33.5% quarter-on-quarter.  more

Ericsson Names New Chief Financial Officer

­Ericsson's in-coming CEO Hans Vestberg has appointed Jan Frykhammar cfo as his replacement in the role with effect from next month. He is currently head of business unit Global Services and Senior Vice President, and will also become Executive Vice President in the New Year.  more

Nokia Shuffles Management After Reporting Quarterly Loss

­After posting a loss yesterday, Nokia has announced some changes in its senior management. Rick Simonson, currently Nokia Chief Financial Officer, has been appointed to head of the Mobile Phones entity within the Devices unit from next month. He will also head strategic sourcing for the whole of the Devices unit.  more

Telenor CFO to Leave at End of Year

­Telenor has announced that it's Chief Financial Officer Trond Westlie is to leave the company at the end of the year. Trond Westlie has worked at Telenor for five years and has been a key member of the Group Executive Management. He is moving to the same post at the A. P. Moeller - Maersk Group.  more

­As reported yesterday, Deutsche Telekom and France Telecom have today announced that they have entered into exclusive negotiations to combine T-Mobile UK and Orange UK in a new 50:50 joint venture company.  more

New President and CEO for ST-Ericsson

­ST-Ericsson, a joint venture of STMicroelectronics and Ericsson has announced the appointment of Gilles Delfassy as President and CEO of the company. Alain Dutheil, who led the company during the merger, will work with Delfassy over the coming months to ensure a smooth transition. Delfassy will assume his position as President and CEO effective November 2, 2009. After then, Dutheil will continue to support ST-Ericsson by joining its Board and will return to his previous role as STMicroelectronics' Chief Operating Officer.  more

Vodafone Loses Tax Appeal with UK Tax Man

Vodafone has lost an appeal over a tax bill that could cost the firm as much as £2.2 billion, after the Court of Appeals overturned a ruling last year that had been in Vodafone's favour. The tax dispute dates back to when Vodafone launched its hostile takeover of Germany's Mannesman in 2000.  more
