Orange UK selects wireless location supplier

SignalSoft Corporation has announced that Orange UK has signed a contract to enable the delivery of location-based services across WAP, SMS and interactive voice platforms. This is the second contract win for SignalSoft with the Orange group -- Orange Switzerland bought a similar package at the end of 2000. The Orange UK contract covers SignalSoft's latest Location Manager(TM) software and MAPS, its Geographic Information System (GIS) provisioning platform. "By using Enhanced Cell ID information, Orange UK will be able to package and deliver highly targeted localized services to its customers who request it," said Charlie Harrison, head of service design at Orange UK. "We'll be building on our existing location services infrastructure to expand our portfolio of content, including details of local entertainment, accommodation and other resources as well as weather and road conditions."" more

Nokia launches 3G compliant location based solution

Nokia today launched the world's first industry standardized Enhanced Observed Time Difference (E-OTD) location technology. The Nokia E-OTD solution supports all location applications segments, including emergency service callers, commercial location-based services and operator services. Nokia's E-OTD technology is a 3GPP standardized solution for use within 3G networks and in November 2000, Nokia signed its first commercial agreement for the delivery of E-OTD technology to AT&T Wireless in the USA. Nokia mPosition Solution supports various location methods such as Cell ID based location method, E-OTD and in the future Assisted Global Positioning System (A-GPS)." more
