Tune Talk Confirms MVNO Launch in Second-Half 2009

Malaysian MVNO, Tune Talk expects to start commercial services in the second half of this year, said its chief executive officer, Jason Lo. DiGi Malaysia Q2 08: Disappointing Customer Growth but Solid Financials

DiGi is MalaysiaÃ's third largest mobile operator by customer numbers behind celcom and market leader Maxis. Between the end of 2001 and the middle of 2007 it saw a steady rise in market share, narrowing the gap between it and celcom from over 15pp to less than 2pp. However, since Q2 07 celcom has responded strongly while DiGi has flagged somewhat, and by the end of Q1 08 celcom had restored a market share lead of more than 4pp, with 31.2% to DiGiÃ's 27.0%.  more

IN DEPTH: Telecom Malaysia International Q1 2008 Results

TM International, the former mobile arm of Telekom Malaysia, has reported results independently for the first time, despite only having been demerged from the parent company at the end of April. Telekom Malaysia has been preparing for the spin-off for some time, transferring all of the relevant assets into the TM International division, including domestic mobile concern celcom, before issuing paper in the new company to its own shareholders. This demerger process was completed on 25th April and trading began on the new TMI stock on the Bursa Malaysia on 28t h April. After initially trading at just over RM7,500 the share price has stayed very steady, with a maximum variation of around 7%.  more

South African Mobile Services Provider Buys Ugandan Retail Chain

South Africa based mobile services company, celcom Group has announced that it has acquired a 50.5 percent interest in the business of Nile Com for about R9.4 million (US$1.3 million). Nile Com is an exclusive MTN dealer in Uganda, and is currently owned by the chairman of MTN Uganda. Specifically, Nile Com operates seven MTN branded retail outlets selling mobile telecoms products and controls 1,200 sub-dealers.  more

Alcatel-Lucent Wins Malaysian GSM Contract

Alcatel-Lucent has been awarded a multi-million Euro contract to expand the GSM mobile network of Malaysia's celcom. The expanded network will enable celcom to provide coverage to more than 90 percent of the northern, southern and eastern parts of the Malaysian Peninsula.  more
