The CDMA Development Group (CDG) and International 450 Association (IA450) have jointly announced that there are 103 operators in 60 countries that have deployed or are planning to deploy cdma450 services; 67 operators in 36 countries are already offering commercial services to more than 12 million people across the world, and 36 networks are being trialed or deployed in 24 more countries. more

Russian Operator Launches BREW Platform
Russia's Sky Link, a cdma450 operator has launched Qualcomm's BREW platform on its network. The service was launched on November 29. Sky Link is the largest Russian CDMA operator, whose licensed territory includes 65 regions with a population of 104 million people, which makes up 72 percent of the Russian Federation population. Sky Link Joint-Stock Company was founded in July 2003 to consolidate regional NMT-450 operators and realize the project of building a federal cellular network in IMT-MC-450 standard (cdma450). more

Two New 3G Licenses for Romania
Romania's telecoms regulator, IGCTI says that it has awarded the country's remaining two 3G concessions to cable operator RCS&RDS and cdma450 operator, Telemobil - trading as Zapp. The two companies obtained the best scores after the evaluation according to the task book criteria. RCS&RDS gained 90.41 points and Telemobil SA 72.71 points. Cosmote Mobile obtained 59.74 points and Radiocom 49.58. more

Russia's Sky Link says that it is increasing the voice capacity of the Sky Link network in Krasnodar and enhancing it with CDMA2000 1xEV-DO technology. Krasnodar Cellular Network, the regional Sky Link operator, and Lucent are upgrading existing Lucent base stations with CDMA2000 1xEV-DO technology and installing new equipment that will enable the operator's Sky Turbo service, which provides data speeds of up to 2.4 Megabits per second.
