Qualcomm has introduced its second-generation embedded Gobi module, delivering multi-mode 3G mobile Internet access on either HSPA or cdma2000 EV-DO networks in markets around the world. The Gobi2000 module offers a wide range of enhancements, including support for additional radio frequencies, increased data speeds, enhanced GPS functionality and support for additional operating systems such as Windows 7. more

Qualcomm Shows Off Rural Mobile PC Base
Qualcomm has launched an alternative PC - which it aims to make available for rural and emerging markets where landline access to the internet is not available. The company says that its Kayak PC alternative fills the niche that exists between desktop PCs, which normally require landlines or separate accessories for connectivity, and Internet-capable wireless devices. more

Peru's Mobile Telephony to Surpass US$2.7 Billion in Revenues by 2013
Peru's Private Investment Promotion Agency (Proinversi³n) plans to auction off 821 - 824 MHz and 866 - 869 MHZ radio-electric spectrum for Lima and Callao along with 25 MHz on C-band (1.900 MHz) nationwide. CDMA2000 Finds Opportunities in Europe, Russia and Emerging Markets in the 450 MHz Band
The CDMA Development Group (CDG) says that CDMA450 is rapidly expanding across all regions, and that 126 operators in 65 countries have deployed or are planning to deploy CDMA450 services; 105 operators in 58 countries are already offering commercial services to more than 15 million people, and 21 operators are trialing or deploying CDMA450 in 8 more countries. more

CDG Absorbs CDMA450 Trade Group
The CDMA Development Group (CDG) has announced that the International 450 Association (IA450) has been incorporated as part of the CDG in an effort to broaden its reach and tap into additional resources to support global CDMA450 initiatives and provide increased benefits for its member companies. The merged IA450 will become a CDMA450 Special Interest Group (SIG) within the CDG, continuing its role in promoting CDMA450 worldwide. more

China Telecom Industry Restructuring - Positive but 3G Uncertainties Remain
The debt ratings agency, Fitch has commented that the recently announced telecommunication (telecom) industry restructuring in China helps somewhat towards resolving the uncertainty that has surrounded the industry for years. The announced industry restructuring falls in line with the agency's expectation, i.e. China Mobile acquires China Tietong Communications Corporation, China Telecom acquires China Unicom's CDMA business and network, and China Unicom's GSM business merges with China Netcom. more
