Japanese Operators Exceed 100 Million 3G Subscribers

Qualcomm says that Japan's mobile operators have exceeded 100 million 3G CDMA subscribers as of April 2009, citing data announced by the Telecommunications Carriers Association in Japan.  more

Qualcomm Chipset Supports Simultaneous Voice and Data Usage

Qualcomm Introduces 2nd-Gen Embedded Module for Mobile Internet Access

Qualcomm has introduced its second-generation embedded Gobi module, delivering multi-mode 3G mobile Internet access on either HSPA or cdma2000 EV-DO networks in markets around the world. The Gobi2000 module offers a wide range of enhancements, including support for additional radio frequencies, increased data speeds, enhanced GPS functionality and support for additional operating systems such as Windows 7.  more

Qualcomm and LT Mobile Sign CDMA Subscriber Unit License Agreement

Qualcomm and LT Mobile have entered into a CDMA subscriber unit license agreement. Under the terms of the royalty bearing agreement, Qualcomm has granted LT Mobile a worldwide patent license to develop, manufacture and sell subscriber units implementing the cdma2000 standard. The royalties payable by LT Mobile are at Qualcomm's standard worldwide rates.  more

Qualcomm Shows Off Rural Mobile PC Base

Qualcomm has launched an alternative PC - which it aims to make available for rural and emerging markets where landline access to the internet is not available. The company says that its Kayak PC alternative fills the niche that exists between desktop PCs, which normally require landlines or separate accessories for connectivity, and Internet-capable wireless devices.  more

Qualcomm and Wingtech Sign 3G CDMA License Agreement

Qualcomm and China's Wingtech Communication, a mobile terminals company, announced that they have entered into a subscriber unit and module/modem card (including PCB assemblies) patent license agreement. Under the terms of the royalty bearing agreement, Qualcomm has granted Wingtech a worldwide patent license to develop, manufacture and sell subscriber units, modules and modem cards (including PCB assemblies) implementing the cdma2000 standard.  more

Qualcomm Doubles CDMA2000 Voice Channel Capacity

Qualcomm says that it has developed new enhancements to cdma2000 network technology which supports more than double today's capacity of 35 simultaneous calls in 1.25 MHz of spectrum while delivering the same level of voice quality.  more

Global Mobile Phone Subscribers to Reach 4.5 Billion by 2012
