Israel's Pelephone 3G base Surpasses 1 Million Mark
Pelephone is the third largest of IsraelĂ's four networks, but it was the fastest growing in Q3 08, both in real terms and proportionately. It added 62k customers in the quarter compared to 40k for market leader Cellcom and 36k for second-placed Partner, and its proportionate quarterly growth rate stood at 2.4% compared to 1.3% for both its rivals. At the end of the quarter its active customer base was just short of 2.70m. Nearest rival Partner had 2.88m, which means that its lead over Pelephone was below 200k for the first time in three years. more

Israel's Pelephone has selected Nortel Networks as the exclusive provider of a CDMA2000 1xEV-DO broadband wireless network in a two-year supply agreement. The first phase of the network deployment is expected to enable 3G 1xEV-DO service for the metropolitan area of central Israel by the end of August 2004. Expanded coverage across the remainder of Pelephone's national footprint is expected to be commercially available towards the end of 2004. more

Nortel wins Israeli 3G contract
Israel's Pelephone has selected Nortel Networks to expand its 3G Wireless Data Network in a supply agreement estimated at US$30 million over three years. Nortel Networks is the primary provider of Pelephone's existing CDMA2000 1X Wireless Data Network. This expansion will overlay existing network equipment. more

Pelephone will launch in Israel Qualcomm's BREW-based application services platform under a memorandum of understanding (MOU) signed between the companies. The BREW solution enables customizing handsets by downloading applications over the air. more
