Vodafone Offers National Roaming onto CDMA Network

Telecom New Zealand Announces WCDMA Network Launch

Telecom New Zealand has announced the early launch of its Wcdma overlay of its existing cdma network - for the 13th May. CEO Paul Reynolds said the development of the Telecom XT Mobile Network had progressed extremely well and the service will be operational across the country from launch day.  more

India's Aircel Reported to be in Talks to Buy Loop Mobile

India's Aircel Cellular is reported to be in talks to buy Mumbai based Loop Mobile (formerly BPL Mobile), which is owned by the Ruias of the Essar group. ZTE Aims to be a Top-5 Phone Manufacturer This Year

China's ZTE is close to breaking into the top-5 of global handset manufacturers after it saw handset shipments jump by 40% in 2008 to reach 45 million units, according to the Taiwan based DigiTimes publication. The company had set itself a target of gaining a top-5 placement by 2011, but did accept that shrinking market share in competitors could bring that date forward.  more

India Added 13.44 Million Mobile Subscribers in February

India's telecoms regulator has published the connection figures for February, noting that a total of 13.42 million telephone connections (Wireline and Wireless) have been added during February 2009 as compared to 15.26 million connections added in January 2009.   more

Hong Kong Undreground Railway Extension Gets Mobile Phone Coverage

BPL Mobile Passes 2 Million Subscriber Mark

India based mobile operator, BPL Mobile - which covers just the city of Mumbai - has announced that it has passed the 2 million subscriber mark. BPL Mobile, in the past few months have substantially grown in their subscriber base, from 1.3 Million in March 2008 to 2 Million in January 2009. The net additions percentage share of BPL Mobile in the past 5 months has been at an average of 22%, much above the other operators.  more

India's RCom - Higher than average usage fails to produce premium ARPU

Reliance Communications has recorded a record quarter, in terms of new connections, adding 5.3m to its base to take the total to 56.0m. Proportionately, it grew by 10.35% over the quarter and 54.3% over the year. These are impressive numbers, but they are also little better than average - the Indian market as a whole grew by 10.03% and 51.2% respectively, while the market leader, Bharti, managed 11.7% and 58.5%.  more
