CDMA Network Launched in Tanzania
A new network has launched in Tanzania, as Dovetel started its cdma network in Dar-es-Salaam. The network, branded as Sasatel will expand its network in several phases over the next few years. The company is 65% owned by PME African Infrastructure Opportunities, an investment company established to invest in sub-Saharan African infrastructure and infrastructure related industries. more

Myanmar Boosts CDMA Network Capacity
The authorities in Burma (Myanmar) are reported to be planning to boost the cdma network capacity by 150,000 subscribers in the two main cities of Yangon and Mandalay. According to the Xinhua news agency, the country had just over 200,000 cdma subscribers at the end of last year, compared to 375,800 GSM subscribers. more

Mongolia Gets HSPA Network Upgrade
Mongolian operator MobiCom has launched a HSPA upgrade, with the network supplied by Ericsson. ZTE First-Quarter Profits Up by 29%
China's ZTE has reported that its first-quarter revenues reached RMB 11.67 billion (US$1.71 billion), representing an increase of 35% compared with the same period last year. Net profit was RMB 78.66 million (US$11.54 million), representing an increase of 29.17% compared with the same period last year. more

Motorola Wins Chinese 3G Contract
Motorola says that it has won a W-cdma contract with China Unicom for an undisclosed amount. Under the contract, Motorola will provide China Unicom with W-cdma radio access network equipment, packet switched core network (PS core), and 2G/3G interoperability functions that will enable the integration of China Unicom's GSM and W-cdma networks. more

Tata Teleservices Outlines $2 Billion CAPEX During 2009-10
India's Tata Teleservices has earmarked a US$2 billion CAPEX for the current financial year to expand its GSM network nationwide. The operator already has a cdma network, but is planning a GSM overlay after the government granted it permission to operate both technologies on a single license. more

Hutchison Telecom has announced that its Vietnamese operation, Vietnamobile will launch its GSM services tomorrow ( 9th April). Vietnamobile, the partnership between Hutchison Telecom and Hanoi Telecom Joint Stock Company, will launch its service over its GSM network with footprint present at 64 provinces in Vietnam. more

China Telecom - the First to Offer EPON-based 3G Services
