China to Allocate Additional Spectrum to 3G Networks

It has been reported that China is planning to allocate additional radio spectrum to the homegrown 3G service, by taking it from the low-cost XiaoLingTong local area wireless service. Xie Feipo, from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology said that the ministry had asked fixed-line operators to return the PHS radio spectrum so it could be reassigned to the TD-Scdma network.  more

China Telecom Completes Purchase of Unicom CDMA Network

China Telecom says that it has completed the $6.4 billion purchase of China Unicom's cdma network. China Unicom is now free to complete its own purchase of landline operator, China Netcom - as part of the government mandated restructuring of the industry.  more

China Unicom Starts 3G Trial

China Unicom is reported to have started a trial Wcdma based network in Baoding City in northern China's Hebei Province. Industry sources told the Interfax news agency that the trials have already commenced.  more

China Unicom Holders Approve Merger With China Netcom
