Sprint Nextel Q1 Loss Widens to $594 Million
Sprint Nextel has reported its first-quarter financials - and recorded a deepening loss of US$594 million, down by 18% on the US$505 million a year ago. Net operating revenues were $8.2 billion, down 12% on the US$9.3 billion a year ago. more

Sierratel launches CDMA Network
Sierra Leone based telco, Sierratel has launched its cdma network after running voice call tests since last August. The Chinese government provided a low-interest rate loan to Sierratel so that it could place a US$17 million order with Huawei for the cdma network kit. The network covers the western side of the country and major towns in the provinces. more

ZTE Records 10 Million Terminal Shipments in Q1 2009
ZTE has announced that its terminal products recorded 10 million units shipped globally in Q1 2009, representing an increase of 30% compared with the same period last year. In Q1 2009, 68% of ZTE's terminal shipments were to overseas markets, delivering terminals to over 100 countries and regions. During this time, ZTE's cdma handsets recorded 2.5 million shipments in the global market, exceeding its total cdma handsets shipment volume in 2008. more
Alcatel-Lucent Wins Chinese Contracts Worth $1.7 Billion
Alcatel-Lucent has inked two framework agreements valued US$1.7 billion in total with China Mobile and China Telecom, to provide network upgrades, integration and maintenance services in 2009. The agreements were secured through Alcatel-Lucent Shanghai Bell, Alcatel-Lucent's Chinese company. more

India's Reliance Seeks 100 Million Subscribers by Year-End
India's Reliance Communications has set itself a target of breaking the 100 million subscriber mark before the end of this year - requiring an additional 25 million new customers to sign up to its network. Qualcomm Slips into Second-Quarter Loss on Broadcom Settlement
Now that the Broadcom patent issue has been finalised, Qualcomm has published its delayed quarterly financial results, which recorded a loss due to that Broadcom settlement. Qualcomm reported second quarter net loss of US$289 million, compared to profit of US$766 million a year ago. Revenues dropped to US$2.46 billion, compared to US$2.61 billion in the prior year and US$2.52 billion in the prior quarter. more

Verizon Wireless Reported to be in Talks for CDMA Based iPhone
Verizon is reported to be in advanced talks with Apple to launch a cdma version of the iPhone handset. The mobile network operator entered into "high-level" discussions with Apple management a few months ago, when CEO Steve Jobs was overseeing day-to-day business, sources told USA Today. The sources declined to be named because they aren't authorized to speak publicly. more
