Apple Rumoured to be Working on CDMA iPhone

An Apple rumour website has reported that the company is working on a CDMA based iPhone, with a launch expected early next year. Citing an unnamed Verizon source, 9to5Mac noted that the company has been recruiting CDMA EVDO engineers for some months, lending credence to the report.  more

China Unicom Starts 3G Trial

China Unicom is reported to have started a trial WCDMA based network in Baoding City in northern China's Hebei Province. Industry sources told the Interfax news agency that the trials have already commenced.  more

India Forces delay on 3G Services

India's Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has ordered Tata Teleservices to delay its launch of CDMA EVDO based services until the government makes formal policy on 3G services. The government has planned to offer spectrum to the GSM operators so that they can offer 3G services later this year. more

Qualcomm Provides an Analysts Market Update

Qualcomm recently held an Analysts Day for investors. Merrill Lynch were there and report that the day, unsurprisingly was focused predominantly on growth expectations of the WCDMA market. Growth of 3G markets (both evolving from CDMA and GSM upgrades) was strong, with 77% YoY subscriber growth in the CDMA EVDO market and 139% YoY subscriber growth in WCDMA over the same time frame. more
