The Thai government has approved plans by state-controlled cat Telecom to buy full control of Hutchison cat Wireless Multimedia. The company is paying 7.5 billion baht (US$232 million) to take control Hutch and its mobile network covering 25 central provinces. Hutchison Telecom is reported to have agreed to sell its Thai CDMA assets to cat Telecom for an undisclosed amount. The local Nation newspaper however said that cat is expected to offer Bt5 billion-Bt7.5 billion for Hutchison's business, assets and CDMA network in 25 provinces. more

Thai Operator Cuts Subscriber Growth Forecast
Thailand's Hutchison cat Wireless Multimedia, a CDMA based joint venture between the Communications Authority of Thailand (cat) and Hutchison Wireless MultiMedia Holdings says that it is halving its customer growth target to 10% - it says due to the economic slowdown, high inflation and oil prices. The company had originally expected to grow its customer base to just under 1.5 million by the end of the year. more
