Active RAN Sharing Could Save Operators $60 Billion

Qualcomm Warns About Scarce 3G Spectrum in Asia Region

In an interview, Qualcomm's president for Southeast Asia and the Pacific region, John Stefanac warned that mobile operators face a regulatory regime which is not allocating sufficient radio spectrum for 3G services. Citing a recent example in Indonesia, he told the South China Morning Post that the networks were only granted 5-10Mhz of spectrum each, which is not sufficient to deploy viable 3G services.  more

Wireless Backhaul via Satellite Worth $4.3 Billion Through 2017

Satellite links will represent a growing portion of rural wireless network deployments around the world over the next 10 years, claims a new report from NSR. The report concludes that, from an estimated $227.1 million in revenues for 2007, revenues for both equipment sales and transponder leases are expected to reach $572.9 million by 2017, yielding total revenues of $4.3 billion over an 11-year period.  more
