Cameraphones Pass 50% Penetration Mark in USA
M:Metrics says that the number of cameraphone owners has climbed to 106 million in the United States, crossing the 50% threshold. Cameraphones are even more ubiquitous in European markets, led by the United Kingdom where three out of every four mobile subscribers own a camera phone. The measurement firm reports that the proliferation of this technology is driving a decline of one of the first sources of mobile entertainment revenue: the sale of wallpapers and phone graphics, as increasing numbers of people personalize their phone with photos taken on the device.

Photo Messaging Climbs as Cameraphones Snap Up Market Share
Cameraphone ownership and usage is climbing across the U.S. and Europe , reports M:Metrics, the mobile market authority. With summer vacations in full swing in America, photo messaging has increased 32 percent since February, while in Europe, it has increased 20 percent in France and 16 percent in the United Kingdom, while remaining steady in Germany, where 19 percent of mobile phone subscribers used photo messaging in June. more

Three MegaPixel Camera Phone Launched
South Korea's SK Teletech has introduced a new 3 megapixel cameraphone for the local market. The SKY IM-8400 comes with a 3.2 million auto-focus camera. There have been a total of seven 3 million pixel-class camera phones introduced onto the South Korean market by leading manufacturers, such as Samsung, Pantech, LG and SKY. The 3 million pixel camera phones have been sold at a rate of more than 30,000 units per month since their first introduction in July 2004, conspicuously overwhelming the market for 3 million pixel digital cameras, despite the relatively high prices. more

Audiovox sells handset division
Audiovox says that it has signed a non-binding letter of intent to sell a controlling interest in the Company's wireless subsidiary, Audiovox Communications to South Korea's Curitel Communications. Currently, Audiovox owns 75% of ACC and Toshiba Corporation owns the remaining interest. more

Strategy Analytics' latest report shows camera phones outsold digital still cameras (DSC) worldwide, for the first time ever, in the first half of 2003. Neil Mawston, Senior Analyst, Strategy Analytics' Global Wireless Practice, notes "25 million camera phones were shipped worldwide, compared with just 20 million digital still cameras, in the first half of 2003. This is a milestone event, but it is just the first step towards the industry goal of getting a camera phone in every pocket." more
