Ensuring Billing Records Comply With EU Law
EMC Corporation, Intec Telecom Systems and SenSage say that they have pooled resources to provide a solution to answer the mandates of the recently passed EU Data Retention Directive. The combined technologies tackle two issues. First, it provides telecommunication and Internet service providers with a lower cost means to manage communication records that support compliance with the Directive. Second, it enables law enforcement agencies to quickly access historical phone and Internet records to pinpoint and prosecute serious crimes. more

French network to upgrade billing system for GPRS services
An unnamed French mobile network with more than 10 million mobile customers, has signed a deal with EDB 4tel to upgrade their current mediation installation to also cover their offering on GPRS. The upgrade, valued at more than US$1 million, will include functionality for GSM, fixed line, value added services and GPRS. Telecom operators use mediation systems to collect and process usage data in the networks. This data often referred to as Call Detail Records (CDRs) and IP Detail Records (IPDRs), form the basis for billing and is also used in systems for fraud management, marketing and planning. The more reliable information an operator can acquire from using data collected from switches and network elements, the better it can utilize this knowledge to boost its competitiveness and revenue insurance." more
