Zain Launches Borderless Roaming in the Middle-East

Zain (formerly MTC) says that it has launched a borderless "One Network" mobile service in four countries in the Middle East. This service, originally launched in Africa, today allows ZainÃ's 14 million customers in Bahrain, Iraq, Jordan and Sudan to be treated as local customers in terms of pricing, while using their home network service.  more

Vodafone New Zealand Outsources Call Center Work to Egypt

Vodafone New Zealand has moved some call center work to Egypt after the company said it could not recruit enough staff within New Zealand. Starting next month, a team of 32 staff in an Egyptian call centre will take up to 30,000 calls per month for the New Zealand operator - increasing over time to some 200,000 calls per month and 200 staff.  more

Joint Report on Cross Border Roaming

The UK and Irish communications regulators have published the report of their Joint Working Group on cross-border inadvertent roaming. The Joint Working Group (JWG) was set up in April 2004 in order to explore solutions to problems - and especially the problem of inadvertent roaming - affecting telecommunications users in both Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland. more

Customers Rarely Complain About Mobile Data Problems

A new NOP survey commissioned by Olista, the service experience assurance company, reveals that users who encounter problems in using new mobile data services will simply give up rather than seek assistance. According to the survey of 1000 adults carried out in September 2005, 64% of those who had actually tried to use a mobile data service such as picture messaging, ring tones and gaming downloads confessed that they would give up trying after one or two attempts. more

New Call Center for Vodafone Portugal

Vodafone Portugal is to open a new Call Centre in Braga in November. With 180 operator stations (resulting in the creation of 360-400 jobs when fully operational), the new Call Centre is a further addition to the company's Customer Care structure outside the capital.
