O2, Vodafone Reported to be in Network Sharing Talks

UK operators, O2 and Vodafone are reported to be in advanced talks regarding sharing their network infrastructure. Citing people close to the talks, the Financial Times that a deal "could provide them with significant savings in capital and operating spending". Vodafone's CEO, Vittorio Collao is currently seeking annual cost savings of £1bn by 2010-11 to bring the UK divisions' operating margins up to the average compared to its other country networks.  more

Orange and Vodafone to Expand Network Sharing Partnership

The UK arms of Orange and Vodafone are expected to expand their existing network sharing agreements to include sharing the costs of engineering, maintenance, and technology, in a move which is expected to save Vodafone (and Orange presumably) around US$1.45 billion a year.  more

Huawei Wins Indonesian Network Contract

Huawei has been chosen by AXIS, IndonesiaÃ's newest GSM and 3G operator, as a key partner in rolling out its full service national network. Under the agreement, Huawei will design, build, deploy and manage AXISÃ' 2G/3G network within the island of Java, Bali, Lombok, Kalimantan and Sulawesi for a period of three years to 2010. Specifically, Huawei will be responsible for close to 4,000 sites across the country, on GSM and 3G radio access, optical and microwave transmission.  more

Large Scale Femtocell Deployments and DAS indoor solution

The much lauded femtocell could make the transition from domestic homes to larger scale commercial in-building coverage applications, by teaming up with advanced distributed antenna systems (DAS), predicts Radio Frequency Systems (RFS). The companyÃ's Vice President Wireless Indoor Solutions, Marc Kaeumle, notes that advanced passive and active DAS architectures are fast evolving into forms that could ultimately assist femtocell technology overcome its mid-to-large enterprise challenges, allowing femtocells to play a role in the corporate in-building world.  more

T-Mobile in Talks with Hutchison 3G Over Network Sharing

T-Mobile is reported to be in talks with Hutchison 3G UK (3) which could lead to the two networks sharing their network infrastructure. The Financial Times, citing analysts says that the move could lead to a possible outright purchase of 3 by T-Mobile. There have been reports for some time now that Hutchison Whampoa is looking for a trade sale of its UK division.  more

Huawei Wins Nigerian CDMA Contract

Huawei has won a contract from the Nigerian CDMA operator, Multi-Links to deploy its bts and core network softswitch and install a CDMA2000 1X network in Lagos, Abuja, PHC, Kano, Ibadan, and Kaduna. Multi-Links is one of the four local phone operators in Nigeria which was awarded unified licenses in May 2006 by the National Communications Commission, Nigeria's telecoms regulator.  more
