Global BTS Transceiver Market Grew 20.5% in 2008
The global base transmitting station (bts) transceiver (TRx) market grew by 20.5% in units in 2008, according to the latest report from EJL Wireless Research. The overall market is expected to decline in 2009 and remain weak through 2011 before seeing a rebound in 2012. GSM shipments continue to represent the majority of the overall market demand in the forecast but will see a gradual decline. more

Telefonica and Vodafone have confirmed rumours and announced a 10-year European deal to share aspects of their radio networks and infrastructure in Germany, Spain, Ireland and the UK. UK operators, O2 and Vodafone are reported to be in advanced talks regarding sharing their network infrastructure. Citing people close to the talks, the Financial Times that a deal "could provide them with significant savings in capital and operating spending". Vodafone's CEO, Vittorio Collao is currently seeking annual cost savings of £1bn by 2010-11 to bring the UK divisions' operating margins up to the average compared to its other country networks. more
