Starbucks Switching Wi-Fi Providers in UK and Ireland

Starbucks is to switch its in-store Wi-Fi service from T-Mobile to British Telecom, covering more than 650 Starbucks coffeehouses in the UK and Ireland. The first stores will have the service installed this week and the roll out will be completed by the end of the summer 2009.  more

BT Wi-Fi usage doubles in a year

Users of Wi-Fi hotspots operated by the UK's bt clocked up twice the number of minutes online between April and September 2008, than the same period last year. The half year figures, combining bt Openzone and bt FON are 100% up on the same period in 2007 and 57% up on the previous six months.  more

UK Wi-Fi Provider Halves Monthly Subscription Rates

bt, the UKs dominant landline operator has cut public Wi-Fi rates by up to 50 percent as it launched a new price structure. More than 2,500 extra European hotspots are also being added, bringing the choice of places to connect to more than 50,000 overseas, and over 100,000 UK and Ireland locations.  more

O2 UK Offers Apple iPhone on Pre Pay Tariffs

O2 UK has announced that it is to offer the Apple 3G iPhone on a Prepay tariff in a couple of weeks time. The  8GB model will be sold for £349.99 and £399.99 for the 16GB model. Prepay customers will also receive inclusive unlimited data and Wi-Fi for 12 months following activation, which company values at £120.  more

O2 Expands Wi-Fi Coverage for iPhone Customers

O2 UK has announced a deal with bt Openzone to enhance the unlimited Wi-Fi package offered to all iPhone customers. From July 11th, iPhone users will have access to more than 3,000 bt Openzone Wi-Fi hotspots as part of their monthly tariff, for no extra cost.  more

Comfone Launches Remote Wi-Fi Test Service

Comfone says that it has launched a Wi-Fi remote test service to facilitate the testing and rollout of Wi-Fi roaming services. The service enables operators and software suppliers to remotely test the inter-operability between WISPr client software and over 30 test hotspots located in a single location in Bern, Switzerland.  more
