O2 UK added 3,000 Wi-Fi Hotspots

O2 UK has expanded its Wi-Fi deal to include BT Openzone Wi-Fi hotspots - adding some 3,000 hotspots, including most branches of Starbucks to its inventory. The partnership, which existing customers will see come into effect today, coincides with an upgrade to O2's Mobile Broadband Connection Manager software, enabling users to manage their data consumption more effectively.  more

Cash Machines to Come with Wi-Fi Service

UK based operator of cashpoint (ATM) machines, Cashbox has signed a deal with BT Openzone to embed Wi-Fi hotspots into its cashpoint machines. As a result of a new five-year deal between Cashbox and BT, the Wi-Fi service will initially be available in 10 of Cashbox's client locations, of which there are more than 2,500 across the UK.  more

BT Wi-Fi usage doubles in a year

Users of Wi-Fi hotspots operated by the UK's BT clocked up twice the number of minutes online between April and September 2008, than the same period last year. The half year figures, combining BT Openzone and BT FON are 100% up on the same period in 2007 and 57% up on the previous six months.  more

UK Wi-Fi Provider Halves Monthly Subscription Rates

BT, the UKs dominant landline operator has cut public Wi-Fi rates by up to 50 percent as it launched a new price structure. More than 2,500 extra European hotspots are also being added, bringing the choice of places to connect to more than 50,000 overseas, and over 100,000 UK and Ireland locations.  more

O2 UK Offers Apple iPhone on Pre Pay Tariffs

O2 UK has announced that it is to offer the Apple 3G iPhone on a Prepay tariff in a couple of weeks time. The  8GB model will be sold for £349.99 and £399.99 for the 16GB model. Prepay customers will also receive inclusive unlimited data and Wi-Fi for 12 months following activation, which company values at £120.  more

O2 Expands Wi-Fi Coverage for iPhone Customers

O2 UK has announced a deal with BT Openzone to enhance the unlimited Wi-Fi package offered to all iPhone customers. From July 11th, iPhone users will have access to more than 3,000 BT Openzone Wi-Fi hotspots as part of their monthly tariff, for no extra cost.  more

BT Plans to Build World's Largest Free WiFi Network

The UK based British Telecom (BT) has agreed to create what it says will be the world's largest "free" WiFi network - in a deal with Spain's FON. Every person who agrees to share a small portion of their home broadband connection, by opening up a separate, secure channel on their wireless router, will be able to share the connection of any other member. BT Total Broadband customers will also be able to use BT's premium existing hotspot network BT Openzone, including 12 Wireless Cities.  more

Orange Combines Wifi, 3G & GPRS to Simplify Mobile Data Access"

Orange UK has announced the launch of Business Everywhere - an integrated mobile solution for connecting to business applications via the Internet which will include access to over 13,000 Wifi hotspots across the UK and the rest of the world. Available in January 2006, Business Everywhere software for laptop data cards allows access to 3G, GPRS and Wifi networks. Combined with new data pricing. the new software will greatly simplify the management of mobility solutions for business customers by offering one contract, one bill and one customer service point of contact, regardless of the network accessed. more
