Tecore Wireless Systems says that it has completed the deployment of a digital wireless network for the Tennessee, USA based Yorkville Telephone Cooperative (YTC), an integrated provider of wireline, wireless and long distance telephone services. Expanding the existing AMPS-based wireless infrastructure, the turn-key project added Tecore's AirCore MSC/HLR and a complement of CoreCell TDMA/IS-136 base stations, enabled prepaid service, increased the number of cell sites, expanded coverage areas, allowed use of multi-mode GAIT (GSM ANSI-41 Interoperability) handsets and increased subscriber capacity. With this expansion, Tecore's technology also paves the way for a GSM bss overlay deployment. more

Alcatel wins Argentinean GSM contract
Alcatel has signed a frame agreement with Telecom Personal, a subsidiary of Telecom Argentina group, for the extension of its GSM/GPRS 1900MHz network in Argentina. Huawei launches soft switch UMTS core
China's Huawei Technologies has released a UMTS Core Network based on soft switch architecture. It supports both R4 and R99 of 3GPP standards, and can be evolved to R5. In addition, it also supports simultaneous access of 2G/2.5G bss and UTRAN. The central part of the soft switch architecture is the separation of control and bearer. Based on the soft switch architecture Huawei's Core Network is future application- proven for multimedia services and is scalable to address the long-term development needs for the UMTS network. It can significantly increase the system capacity and integration-level. more

AirNet Communications has received purchase orders for approximately US$5 million in products and services. Nokia wins Australian 3G contract
Nokia today announced an agreement with Cable & Wireless Optus (soon to be owned by SingTel) for the sole supply of a 3G network in Australia. The agreement covers the supply of 3G RAN (Radio Access Network), for both W-CDMA and EDGE, as well as the complete 3G Circuit and Packet Core Network. The initial value of the deal is potentially in excess of $900 million Australian dollars over seven years. Deliveries of the Nokia UltraSite base station have already begun, and the mobile packet core will evolve from the Nokia GPRS core that Optus already has in commercial use. The agreement also covers a continuation and extension of Nokia's existing 2G relationship where Nokia has a GSM bss infrastructure supply agreement with Optus." more

Nokia has signed an agreement with the Slovak GSM network, Globtel to supply GPRS core network infrastructure. Globtel will be the first mobile operator in Slovakia with a complete commercially capable GPRS network.
