Harris Stratex Networks Wins Indian Mobile WiMAX Contract
Harris Stratex Networks says that it has won a mobile WiMAX deployment contract fro m India's bsnl. Worldwide, approximately 1.45 million BWA/WiMAX subscribers were added during 2008, while the WCDMA subscriber base increased by more than 90 million. India's BSNL Planning 3G Launch Across 700 Cities
India's state-owned operator, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (bsnl) intends to expand its 3G network to 700 cities across the North and East of the country by June. A second wave of launches in the South of the country will follow in July. Ericsson is bsnl's partner for 3G roll-out in over 400 of these cities. more

More Delays to India's 3G License Auction
There has been a further delay to India's already oft-delayed 3G license auction, after the Indian Cabinet decided to refer the issue to a Group of Ministers (GoM) to adjudicate on. The Department of Telecom (DoT) and the Finance Ministry have been battling over the reserve price which would apply to the auction. more

Indian Network "Soft-Launches" 3G Coverage in Delhi
India finally launched a 3G network today as state-controlled operator, Mahanagar Telecom Nigam Limited (MTNL) launched a WCDMA network in the capital city, Delhi. The company is only offering a "soft-launch" though, and coverage is limited to the main business and political districts, Connaught Place, Sanchar Bhawan, Rajaji Marg, India Gate, Pragati Maidan, Delhi Gate, and Minto Road. more

Intel and the WiMAX Forum Working on Affordable WiMAX Devices for India
At a recent conference, Sriram Viswanathan, Intel vice president and general manager of the WiMAX Program Office, announced that the company is working with Indian service providers and device manufacturers to help bring WiMAX-ready notebooks and netbooks to the India market segment mid-2009.
