Broadcom Profits Down by 90%

Semiconductor firm, broadcom has recorded a 13.4% drop in Q2 revenues of US$1.040 billion compared to the previous year, although this was up 21.9% compared to Q1 of 2009. Net income plunged by 90% to US$13.4 million, compared to US$134.8 million a year ago.  more

Qualcomm Slips into Second-Quarter Loss on Broadcom Settlement

Now that the broadcom patent issue has been finalised, Qualcomm has published its delayed quarterly financial results, which recorded a loss due to that broadcom settlement. Qualcomm reported second quarter net loss of US$289 million, compared to profit of US$766 million a year ago. Revenues dropped to US$2.46 billion, compared to US$2.61 billion in the prior year and US$2.52 billion in the prior quarter.  more

Qualcomm and Broadcom Wave a Paper and Declare "Peace For Our Time"

The acrimonious patent battle between Qualcomm and broadcom is finally over. The two firms have entered into a settlement and multi-year patent agreement, which will result in the dismissal with prejudice of all litigation between the companies, including all patent infringement claims in the International Trade Commission and U.S. District Court in Santa Ana, as well as the withdrawal by broadcom of its complaints to the European Commission and the Korea Fair Trade Commission.  more

Worldwide Semiconductor Revenue Down in 2008 - Qualcomm Bucks the Trend

Worldwide semiconductor revenue totaled $255 billion in 2008, down 5.4 percent, or a decrease of $14.5 billion from 2007 revenue, according to the final market share analysis by Gartner. Nokia Deal to Boost Qualcomm's Dominance in Mobile Handset Baseband Chips?

Due to its recent agreement with Nokia, Qualcomm is likely to solidify its lead in the global market for mobile-handset baseband semiconductors, according to iSuppli Corp. Based on iSuppli's preliminary estimate, Qualcomm in the fourth quarter accounted for 40.6 percent of worldwide revenue from shipments of mobile handset baseband semiconductors, up from 36.3 percent in the third quarter.  more

Chinese Handset Production Growth Down to Single Figures

China's CCID Consulting has reported that after a period of rapid growth over the past few years, the Chinese mobile handset chips market experienced a conspicuous decline in 2008. The research firm predicts that the scale of Chinese mobile phone chips market is expected to reach RMB 110 billion (US$16 billion), up by 6%, down to single-digit growth for the first time.  more
