Wi-Fi Pushing Radio IC Market to $4 Billion in 2013

­Vendors will ship $4 billion in Wi-Fi radio chips in 2013, most of these for cellphones, notebooks, netbooks, infrastructure, home entertainment systems and wireless gaming consoles. At the same time, adoption of 802.11n MIMO with multiple transmit streams will help boost the market for Wi-Fi power amplifier modules to twice its 2008 size, despite continued pricing pressure.  more

Five Years of Wi-Fi Chipsets - Prices Halved as Shipments Rocket

New market data released by ABI Research shows that about 440 million Wi-Fi chipsets will be shipped over the course of 2008. This represents a tenfold increase over the number shipped in 2003; but over the same five-year period, the revenues they produced have multiplied by only five.  more

New WiFi Standard - Buyer Beware

The 802.11n Wi-Fi standard holds the promise of enabling a new generation of networking applications including multimedia distribution within the home and very high-speed data connectivity. With a new draft 11n Draft Specification approved in March 2006, chipset vendors and equipment makers are gearing up for a new wave of market growth. However, according to a new study from ABI Research, the road ahead is full of pitfalls, and early adopters should heed the warning to "let the buyer beware" until final ratification of the standard in 2007. more
