Shipment of Taiwan's Basic/Feature Phone Industry Exceeds Forecasts

According to research of the Taipei-based Market Intelligence & Consulting Institute (MIC), shipment volumes of the Taiwanese basic/feature phone industry in the first quarter of 2009 has been estimated at 10.21 million units. Even though shipment volume declined sequentially in the first quarter, it was still higher than the 9.42 million units originally forecast.  more

Infrastructure vendor, Radiocomp says that it has developed the world's first protocol-agnostic remote radio head (RRH) for mass deployment of LTE infrastructure. Radiocomp is using PMC-Sierra's PM7832 bricTM 2 interface controller to implement a multi-mode RRH platform that supports both CPRI (v2.1, V3.0, & V4.0) and OBSAI RP3-01 v.4.0 protocols.  more

IDC Predicts Worldwide Mobile Phone Shipments To Fall 8.3% in 2009

The worldwide mobile phone market felt the full effects of the economic crisis in the fourth quarter of 2008 as shipments fell 11.6% year over year, marking the first time the holiday quarter has not recorded double digit growth in seven years. This closed out a year that was dismal at best, yet overall 2008 managed to grow 4.3% over 2007. This has set the stage for what IDC predicts to be a very rough 2009, with the most recent market forecast anticipating growth of -8.3% for the year.  more

BRIC Economies to Experience Strong Mobile User Growth, Reaching 1.64bn by 2013

Worldwide mobile cellular subscribers to reach 4 billion mark late 2008

ITU Secretary-General Hamadoun Touré announced in New York that worldwide mobile cellular subscribers are likely to reach the 4 billion mark before the end of this year. Mobile Subscribers to Hit 5.2 Billion in 2011

Communications market research firm Infonetics Research reports there were 3 times more mobile subscribers than access line subscribers worldwide in 2007 (3.3 billion vs. 1.1 billion), and expects continued strong growth in mobile subscribers, mainly driven by basic voice service needs in bric countries (Brazil, Russia, India, and China).  more

India to be the largest market for Mobile WiMAX by 2013

Mobile WiMAX may not succeed in mature mobile broadband markets, but it will have a future in bric countries, especially in India according to an analysis made by Cantab Wireless. The analysis made by Cantab Wireless revealed that Mobile WiMAX cannot fulfil all the expectations placed upon it.
