Android Took Half the UK Smartphone Sales Over Past 12 Weeks
The latest data from Kantar Worldpanel ComTech shows that Android holds a 49.9% share of the UK smartphone market, followed by blackberry (22.5%) and Apple (18.5%). Smartphones made up 69.1% of sales over the 12 weeks, meaning that 43.8% of the British population now own a smartphone. more

Smartphone Market Grew Nearly 80% in First Three Months of 2011
The worldwide smartphone market grew 79.7% year over year in the first quarter of 2011 (1Q11), driven by a combination of vendors releasing highly anticipated models, widespread availability of older smartphones at lower prices, and sustained end-user demand. According to IDC, smartphone vendors shipped a total of 99.6 million units in 1Q11, nearly double from the 55.4 million units in the first quarter of 2010. more

Google Android Captures Top Position in USA Smartphone Market
According to a study of more than 30,000 US mobile subscribers Samsung is the top handset manufacturer overall with 24.9 percent market share. The comScore survey also found that the Google Android took the lead among smartphone platforms with 31.2 percent market share, after two short months in second place. more

Android Overtakes iPhone in the UK Smartphone Market
The latest market share figures for smartphone operating systems (OS), from Kantar Worldpanel ComTech, show that Android has increased its share of smartphone sales in the UK to 37.4% (up from 8.3% a year ago), while Apple's iOS has seen its market share reduce to 22% in the same period. Two-Thirds of iPhone Owners Plan to Replace Them Within the Next Two Years
Two-thirds of cell phone owners and owners of PDA devices will replace them within the next two years, according to a poll just completed by ICR/International Communications Research. As might be expected, the younger generation is more likely to make a change sooner: 77% of those 18-34 plan to replace the items within the next two years, vs. 46% of those 65+. more

Smartphones with consumer-oriented functionality score best in a customer satisfaction study released today from CFI Group. A new generation of smartphone, lead by Apple's iPhone and including Google's Android and Palm Pre, is bringing in a new customer audience no longer dominated by business users. The CFI Group Smartphone Satisfaction Study, based on surveys of more than 1,000 smartphone users, also finds little relationship between smartphone satisfaction and satisfaction with the provider. Moreover, exclusivity contracts may have drawbacks for carriers if they invite customers drawn to the device and not the provider. more

40% of Existing Smartphone Owners Consider Switching to the iPhone
Four out of ten blackberry and other smartphone users would switch to Apple's iPhone, as their next smartphone purchase, according to a recent survey conducted by Crowd Science. On the other hand, only 14% of non-blackberry smartphone users would switch to a blackberry for their next purchase. Meanwhile, a vast majority of iPhone users (82%) are loyal to the iPhone brand. more
