Mobile Handset Market Stays Afloat with 258 Million Shipped in 1Q-2009
Despite tough corporate and unemployment news making the headlines, the mobile handset-buying public did not head to the hills during the first quarter of 2009. Handset vendors had shipped 258 million handsets by the end of the quarter. Although that represents an 11% year-over-year decline, the result significantly exceeded the previous forecast of 253.5 million. Worldwide Smartphone Sales Reached Its Lowest Growth Rate in Q3 '08
In the third quarter of 2008, the global smartphone market reached its weakest year-on-year growth since Gartner began tracking the industry. Worldwide smartphone sales to end-users totalled 36.5 million units in the third quarter of 2008, an 11.5 per cent increase from the same period in 2007. more

Majority of US Phone Users Report Surging Mobile Phone Usage
Azuki Systems has published a user survey of US mobile phone users which reports that over 54% of those surveyed said their mobile phone usage had increased by more than 25% over the last two years, and one in five respondents said it had increased by more than 50%. A significant catalyst behind this growth is smart phone adoption, with 62% of respondents indicating they either own or will own such a device in the next 12 months. more
