HTC Top Supplier of Android Smartphones to Main European Markets

­In July 2011, nearly 1 in 4 smartphone users in EU5 countries (France, Germany, Italy, Spain and UK) reported using smartphones running on the Google Android platform. HTC had the highest market share among mobile original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), accounting for 34.6 percent of Android devices used across the region in this period, followed closely by Samsung with 31.7 percent of Android devices.  more

Android Pushes Smartphones Sales Past Feature Phones for First Time

­Western European feature phone shipments continued to decline sharply in 2Q11 as consumers increasingly move to smartphones, according to the latest European Mobile Phone Tracker from International Data Corporation (IDC). Feature phone shipments were down 29% to 20.4 million units in 2Q11, while smartphone shipments increased 48% to 21.8 million units from a year ago. The total Western European mobile phone market, however, declined 3% year on year to 42.2 million units in the quarter, according to IDC.  more

Samsung Continues to Top USA Mobile Phone Manufacturer

comScore has published data from its MobiLens service, reporting key trends in the U.S. mobile phone industry during the three month average period ending July 2011. ­The study surveyed more than 30,000 U.S. mobile subscribers and found Samsung to be the top handset manufacturer overall with 25.5 percent market share. Google Android continued to gain ground in the smartphone market reaching 41.8 percent market share.  more
