Bell Canada Profits Jump on Strong Mobile Subscriber Growth
Bell Canada has reported a jump in 3rd-quarter profits to C $558 million (US$533 million), compared to C $248 million a year ago. Bell's operating revenues increased by 1.2% to C$3.79 billion (US$3.62 billion), as higher product revenues from the acquisitions of The Source and the remaining 50% of the equity of Virgin Mobile Canada not already owned by Bell and growth in video revenues more than offset declines in local and access, long distance, and wireline data revenues. more

Bell Canada Profits Up - Raises Outlook for Full Year
Bell Canada (BCE) has reported a slight rise in its second-quarter revenues by 1.5% to C$3.63 billion (US$3.4 billion), with net profits up by 4.2% to C$346 million (US4322 million). The company also raised its outlook for the full year. The operating income decreased to C$825 million this quarter, or by 6.9%, due to lower operating income at Bell and Bell Aliant. BCE's EBITDA increased 2.8% to C$1,792 million this quarter due to EBITDA growth at Bell and Bell Aliant. more

North America was the first region to be affected by the current economic
crisis and, to date, has been the hardest hit. Although the full effects of the
downturn are yet to be felt, the wireless operatorsÃ' results in the third
quarter reflect how mobile services have become indispensable and two-year
contracts are protecting the sector in the region. Mobile telecom remains on
track to grow in the region in 2009.
