Bell Canada Profits Jump on Strong Mobile Subscriber Growth

­bell Canada has reported a jump in 3rd-quarter profits to C $558 million (US$533 million), compared to C $248 million a year ago. bell's operating revenues increased by 1.2% to C$3.79 billion (US$3.62 billion), as higher product revenues from the acquisitions of The Source and the remaining 50% of the equity of Virgin Mobile Canada not already owned by bell and growth in video revenues more than offset declines in local and access, long distance, and wireline data revenues.  more

Bell Aliant Profits Down Slightly

Canada­'s bell Aliant Regional Communications Income Fund has reported that its 3rd-quarter net profits fell slightly to C$74.3 million on lower revenues and a restructuring charge. EBITDA however, rose slightly to C375 million.  more

Canada's Dave Wireless Secures Funding for Network Roll-Out

­Canada's Data & Audio Visual Enterprises Wireless (DAVE Wireless) has signed a $125-million loan agreement with ING Bank to fund the build-out of its wireless network. This long-term financing, which was structured by ING and its affiliate ING Capital, will enable DAVE Wireless to accelerate its roll-out schedule in its service territories, which include Ontario, Alberta and British Columbia.  more

Improving LTE Data Speeds at the Edges of Cells

­The first live field tests of Coordinated Multipoint Transmission (CoMP) a new technology that will increase data transmission rates pn LTE networks have been carried out by the bell Labs. The labs, now part of Alcatel-Lucent carried out the tests in partnership with Deutsche Telekom Laboratories, the Fraunhofer Heinrich-Hertz Institut, and antenna supplier Kathrein.  more
