Belgium's Competition Council has fined the mobile network operator, Proximus a total of EUR 66.3 million (US$92.6 million) for allegedly abusing its dominant market position. EU calls on mobile operators to continue to improve child safety policies
Half of 10 year-old, 87% of 13 year-old and 95% of 16 year-old children in the EU have a mobile phone, but half of European parents worry mobile phone use might expose their children to sexually and violently explicit images (51%) or bullying by other children (49%), according to a survey. The European Commission has now called on mobile operators to do more to keep children safe while using mobile phones by putting in place all the measures in the voluntary code of conduct, signed by 26 mobile operators in 2007. more

Vodafone has signed a partnership deal with Luxembourg mobile network operator, Tango - replacing a contract with rival operator LuxGSM which recently expired. Vodafone said that the partnership strengthens the existing relationship between Vodafone and belgacom, Tango's parent company. more

Belgacom ICS Certified as GSMA Compliant Roaming Hub
Belgium based, belgacom ICS has announced the successful completion of the self-certification process of its Open Connectivity Roaming Hub. With the Open Connectivity (OC) Initiative, the GSMA is looking for new ways to set up Interconnection and Roaming relationships between mobile operators through a hub as an alternative to implementing one-to-one roaming relationships across the world's GSM networks. This follows the existing achievements of the Open Connectivity SMS Interworking Hub for which belgacom ICS was the first to be certified. more
