Alcatel-Lucent Deploys 3G Network in Reunion
Alcatel-Lucent says that it has successfully deployed a 3G network for the mobile operator SRR in the island nation of Réunion. The first phase of this UMTS/HSPA wireless network deployment was made in 2008 mostly in Réunion's Saint-Denis commune and in the island's main towns. more

T-Mobile Tests Hydrogen Powered Base Station
T-Mobile Hungary has commissioned the first base station in the country to be operated with hydrogen based PEM cells. T-Mobile (Magyar Telekom) says that the only other trials of hydrogen based PEM cells to power base stations have only been carried out with a few base stations in Sweden so far. more

Huawei Wins Indonesian Network Contract
Huawei has been chosen by AXIS, Indonesia's newest GSM and 3G operator, as a key partner in rolling out its full service national network. Under the agreement, Huawei will design, build, deploy and manage AXIS' 2G/3G network within the island of Java, Bali, Lombok, Kalimantan and Sulawesi for a period of three years to 2010. Specifically, Huawei will be responsible for close to 4,000 sites across the country, on GSM and 3G radio access, optical and microwave transmission. more

Nortel Providing WiMAX Kit for Moscow Network
Russia based Comstar has selected Nortel equipment to develop the first mobile WiMAX network in Moscow. 160 base stations are expected to be built in Moscow by the end of 2008. The overall investments in the project are expected to amount to approximately US$20 million in 2008. more
