Hutchison Telecom Confirms Spin-Off Plans for Hong Kong Holdings
Hong Kong based Hutchison Telecom has reported a 16% rise in full-year revenues to HK$24 billion (US$3.1 billion) and an increase of 16.8% in EBITDA to HK$6.14 billion (US$791 million). Net income dropped precipitously to HK$1.88 billion (US$242 million) from the extraordinary HK66.8 billion a year ago - which was largely due to the one-off gain from the sale of its Indian interests to Vodafone. more

Alcatel-Lucent Cuts Power Consumption by Base Stations by a Quarter
Alcatel-Lucent announced an enhancement to its GSM/EDGE mobile networking portfolio which it says can reduce power consumption by up to 27 percent. The power reductions were demonstrated during January field trial this year with China Mobile in the country's Jiangsu province. On average, a 24 percent power saving has been achieved. more

Digicel Powers 60% of Vanuatu Network from Wind and Solar Energy
The Vanuatu arm of multi-national operator, Digicel has completed the second phase of its green power network implementation and is using wind and solar energy solutions to power 25 base stations on the Pacific archipelago. Digicel, which is the leading mobile operator in Vanuatu, now carries more than 60% of its network traffic on base stations powered by renewable energy sources. more
