Femto Forum Outlines Case for LTE Femtocells
The femtocell trade body, the Femto Forum today outlined the case for LTE femtocells at the LTE World Summit in Berlin. The principal performance benefit that femtocells bring to LTE, cited by the Femto Forum, is that they will ensure more users receive peak data rates more of the time, especially inside buildings where the vast majority of mobile broadband data is consumed and where the service quality is lower than outside. Femtocells achieve this by maximising spectrum re-use and by ensuring power, and therefore network capacity, is not wasted by trying to penetrate buildings. more

Solutions for Indoor Cell Coverage Could Boost 3G Services
One of the biggest challenges facing wireless subscribers is a lack of indoor coverage, reports In-Stat. The timing of 3G service rollouts is making this problem more relevant, as carriers realize that 3G services will have limited success without addressing the indoor coverage issue, the high-tech market research firm says. The cost to address these shortcomings with traditional macro base station solutions is too high and not possible for most mobile operators. more
