Alcatel-Lucent Offers Converged RAN for CDMA Networks Migrating to LTE

Alcatel-Lucent says that it has expanded its wireless networking portfolio to inlcude a Converged RAN" (radio access network) which enables mobile service providers to offer both 3G CDMA and LTE services using a common network infrastructure. One of the key elements of the Converged RAN is the software defined radio (SDR) technology which has been available on the current Alcatel-Lucent base stations for a number of years already.  more

Hong Kong Network Launches HSPA+ Upgrade

Hong Kong's CSL - a subsidiary of Australia's Telstra - has launched the world's first Software Defined Radio (SDR) based HSPA+ All IP commercial network, with the upgrade provided by China's ZTE. CSL invested hundreds of millions of dollars to establish the network.  more

Nokia Siemens Completes 2nd Phase of China Mobile TD-SCDMA Rollout

Nokia Siemens Networks has announced that it is one of first vendors to complete phase two deployment of China Mobile's 3G network, based on TD-SCDMA technology. Nokia Siemens Networks has been working with China Mobile subsidiaries Fujian Mobile, Henan Mobile, Jiangxi Mobile and Hainan Mobile to deploy their respective 3G networks.  more

T-Mobile Boosts Indoors Coverage at Luxury Boston Hotel

ADC has announced that its InterReach Fusion in-building cellular system has been deployed to provide strong and consistent coverage at Mandarin Oriental, Boston. The system currently provides augmented coverage for T-Mobile customers, although it can also support traffic from additional mobile operators who choose to use it.  more

DoCoMo Demos Mobile Downloads at 120Mbps using LTE Test Network

Fujitsu has announced that, in collaboration with NTT DoCoMo, they have conducted successful field testing for Long-term Evolution (LTE), using 4x4 MIMO technology. The testing took place in the Special Ubiquitous Zone, an area of the northern Japanese city of Sapporo in Hokkaido, designated by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications in 2008 as a wireless communications testing area, and used prototypes of the wireless LTE base stations developed jointly by NTT DoCoMo, Fujitsu and Fujitsu Laboratories which, with the use of MIMO technology, resulted in high-speed wireless transmissions in the range of 120 Mbps (using 10 MHz bandwidth) in Sapporo's urban environment.  more

Nepal Telecom Seeking Independent Power Supplies

Nepal Telecom (NT) is planning to deploy a range of alternative power supplies for its base stations in the face of continuing supply problems from the national electricity grid. Alvarion Delivers Turnkey WiMAX Network in Burkina Faso

Alvarion says that it has been chosen by Burkina Faso's Ministry of Posts and Information Communication Technology for the country's first 802.16e WiMAX deployment. Alvarion initially deployed a network in the capital city of Ouagadougou to connect administrative offices with data and voice services over WiMAX. Based on the successful results, the Ministry of Posts and Information Communication Technology decided to award an expansion contract with full turnkey services to Alvarion.  more
