Orange Deploying 100 Solar Powered Base Stations in African Nation

Orange Guinea Conakry and Ericsson are deploying over 100 base stations fully powered by solar energy, connecting remote parts of rural Africa. Using Ericsson's energy-efficient base stations, a hybrid diesel-battery solution and solar panels, Orange is increasing mobile coverage in rural and urban areas.  more

IPWireless Sold to its Management

IPWireless was been sold to its management by its parent company, NextWave Wireless and secured long term financing with a significant (if unnamed) strategic partner. IPWireless was founded in 1999 and was acquired in May, 2007 by NextWave Wireless and became part of the NextWave Network Products division. In an announcement on December 26, 2008 NextWave disclosed that it had sold 75 percent of IPWireless to IPW Holdings, an entity formed by the senior IPWireless management team.  more

Orange Offers Lost Dog Tracker Service

Orange UK has launched a mobile phone type collar for pet dogs to track their locations. According to the Missing Pets Bureau, nearly 2,500 dogs were lost or stolen every week in 2007. The Retrieva collar will help combat this through its instant tracking and alert system linked directly to your mobile phone.  more

T-Mobile UK to Shut-Down 5,000 Base Stations

UK mobile operator, T-Mobile is reported to be planning a shut-down of some 5,000 of its base stations as part of its network sharing deal with Hutchison 3G UK. The UK trade magazine, Mobile Today said that both networks are removing transmitters as they begin to share resources.  more
