BenQ Mobile Shut Down Affects Fabrication Supplier
Due to recent developments at mobile phone producer BenQ and increasingly lower orders from other customers, the plastics fabrication firm, balda has suffered a significant drop in its third-quarter sales. balda is thus forced to drastically lower its 2006 sales and profit targets. Production in Germany is particularly affected. As a result, the company says that it plans to sell the factories in Herford in North Rhine-Westphalia, Oberlungwitz in Saxony and Seelbach in Baden-Wuerttemberg, preferably in 2006, even if this means incurring book losses. These facilities have mainly produced for BenQ and Nokia. more

Handset components supplier sees sales fall
The German components manufacturers, balda AG saw a drop in sales to around US$139 million last year (previous year: US$143 million). Revenues thus remained around 2.7% below the level of the previous year. Reasons for this slight reversal included the global economic downturn and the continuing downward trend in the mobile phone market in the fourth quarter of 2001. The intended recovery resulting from the Christmas trade did not live up to expectations. more
