Trade body, 3G Americas has published key recommendations for utilizing non-standard spectrum bands in a white paper that discusses the emerging challenges for spectrum stakeholders involving how to permit wider spectrum usage by operators using various broadband technologies and current spectrum allocations. GSMA Urges Latin American Regulators to Relax radio Spectrum Limits
Tight spectrum caps in some Latin American countries are artificially curbing uptake and usage of broadband in the region, according to a study by consultancy Arthur D Little (ADL) for the GSMA, the global trade group for the mobile industry. The study found that rigid restrictions on the amount of spectrum available to mobile operators are undermining their ability to provide mobile broadband services that would enable millions of people to access the Internet, email and other online services via computers and handsets at high speeds in areas lacking DSL or cable broadband connections. more

North American Rolling Annual Growth Rate Drops to Lowest Rate Ever
The North America region ended the third quarter with a total of 288.2m customers, up from 283.5m at the end of Q2 and 268.4m one year earlier. The quarter saw a faster rate of growth than was achieved in either Q1 or Q2, when 4.2m and 3.7m connections were made (respectively) but the 4.66m new connections only amounts to a 1.64% growth rate. Year on year, the total number of new connections amounted to 19.71m, or rather less than India has added in September and October alone. The regionÃ's annual growth rate was just 7.3%, the slowest ever. more
Rogers Posts 84% in 3rd Quarter Profits on iPhone Sales
Canada's Rogers Communications has reported an 84% jump in 3rd quarter profits on strong sales of Apple's iPhone handset and net subscriber growth. The company posted a net income of CA$495 million (US$386 million) compared to CA$269 million (US$210 million) a year ago. Revenues climbed by 14% to CA$3 billion (US$2.34 billion) as the company sold around 255,000 of the 3G iPhone handset. more

T-Mobile Expected to Sell Google Phone for Under $200
As T-Mobile USA prepares to show off the first version of the so-called, Google Phone next week, it has been reported that the company is aiming to sell the smartphone for US$199 with a contract. Sony Ericsson Launches its First AWS Handset on T-Mobile USA

Sony Ericsson will now reach more than 31 million wireless subscribers through this partnership.
