Turkey Awards 3G Licenses

Turkey has awarded three 3G licenses to the incumbent operators following an auction to battle over the spectrum allocation. Turkey to Offer 3G Licenses Within Six Months

Turkey is to launch a tender for 3G licenses within the next six months, reports the government's Official Gazette, where all new laws are published. According to the Gazette, the minimum value of the A License is set as US$405 million, while the minimum value is US$355 million for the B License, US$304 million for the C License and US$253 million for the D License.  more

Turkey to Get Number Portability by Year-End

Turkey's telecoms regulator has announced that it will mandate mobile number portability to be launched in November this year. Tayfun Acarer, head of the Telecommunications Board told reporters that he expects the infrastructure should be in place within the next couple of months, but the service would not launch immediately to allow for testing.  more

Vodafone Accuses Turkcell of Obstructing Mobile Number Portability

Turkcell Picks up Turkey's Only 3G License

Turkey's Turkcell has won, what has become the country's sole 3G license after other bidders withdrew from a televised auction. The company is paying US$440 million for the license, although that rises to about US$510 once you include taxes. The auction was due to have occurred earlier this year but was delayed for unspecified reasons, although that was widely believed to be due to the political difficulties pending the snap election held a couple of weeks ago.  more

Turkey Delays 3G License Tender

Turkey's telecoms regulator has delayed the country's planned 3G license tender until September. The tender was due to be carried out today. The Communications Ministry official gave no reason for the delay, but media reports cited the general elections, which have been brought forward to July from November amid a political crisis. more
