Taiwanese OEMs Switching from Ericsson to Qualcomm for 3G Phones
Taiwan's handset manufacturers are increasingly switching from the Ericsson mobile phone platform to Qualcomm's own handset platform - report local industry sources. Sources told DigiTimes that because HTC has had good success with its Qualcomm-based 3G handsets, other major handset vendors such as Motorola, LG Electronics, Hewlett-Packard (HP) and Palm all intend to adopt the Qualcomm platform for their 3G products. more

Ericsson U360 platform selected for HSPA PC card
Ericsson has announced that its U360 mobile platform has been selected by Taiwanese mobile device manufacturer asustek Computer for its recently launched T500 PC card. Ericsson's U360 platform is an EDGE/WCDMA/HSPA platform with quad-band EDGE as well as triple-band HSPA capabilities on the downlink. The T500 PC card provides users with high-speed mobile broadband and offers special phone communication functions for the desktop or notebook. more

Taiwan's Chunghwa Telecom Aims for 3.6 Million 3G Subscribers by 2009
Taiwan's Chunghwa Telecom (CHT) expects that its 3G subscriber base will grow to 3.6 million by the end of 2008, according to reports in the local DigiTimes publication. CHT had 800,000 3G subscribers at the end of 2006 and projects it will have 2.20 million subscribers at the end of 2007 says the newspaper. more

TTPCom has announced that its 3G dual-mode protocol technology has successfully passed GCF and IOT testing and is currently undergoing final carrier acceptance trials. As such, it represents the first multiplatform 2G/3G dual mode protocol software available on the open market to achieve this high level of certification. TTPCom's dual mode protocol stack has already been integrated onto multiple silicon platforms from different vendors and is available now for license. more
