Debt ratings agency, Fitch Ratings says in a new report, that notwithstanding the impact of the current recessionary environment, the overall Outlook for the Asia Pacific telecoms industry is Stable, and most operators are well-placed to defend their credit profiles. The report explores how key financial metrics will move for each of the operators across Asia Pacific in 2009 and conclude that while revenue growth is likely to slow, cash flow from operations (CFO) and free cash flow (FCF) after dividends are likely to, on average, moderately rise. more

Survey: Mobile Sector Expects to Buck Economic Trend in 2009
New research, commissioned by OSS vendor, Comptel has found that mobile service providers are surprisingly upbeat about the mobile sector's potential in the year ahead. The research found that over half expect mobile operators to be less affected than the wider economy and the majority think that mobile operators face less of a challenge than service providers from other sectors of the communications industry. more

The WiMAX market is heating up quickly, with worldwide sales of fixed and mobile WiMAX equipment up 6% in 3Q07 to $206 million following a 14% jump in 2Q07, says Infonetics Research in its latest report. Worldwide unit shipments of fixed and mobile WiMAX equipment are up 16% in 3Q07, driven by continued rollout of new fixed and mobile WiMAX networks, and further expansion of those already in operation, the report shows. more

Indonesia to Get a DMB Based Mobile TV Service
Indonesia is to get a mobile TV network based on the DMB (Digital Multimedia Broadcasting) standard. The Indonesia electronics company PT Agis Tbk, IPTV and mobile TV systems integrator BNS and mobile TV pioneer Toshiba have announced a partnership to jointly build a broadcast-based, nationwide mobile TV network in Indonesia. more
