EDGE Continues to Dominate New Base Station Deployments in 2009

EDGE will dominate new base station deployments in 2009 with over 40% of new base station deployments, reports In-Stat. The slowdown in the global economy is having an effect on EDGE base station deployments as operators push out deployments. There will be a slight decline in new EDGE base station deployments from 2008 to 2009, resulting in 2008 being the zenith of EDGE deployments.  more

Motorola Opens LTE Test Center in the UK

Motorola says that it has opened a LTE trial network and testing lab in Swindon, UK. This latest expansion of Motorola's LTE trial facilities offers operators the ability to engage in LTE technology field trials and detailed real-world equipment testing at the UK site. Additionally, Motorola can host the core elements of the LTE network for operators that require a hosted LTE trial in EMEA.  more

European Mobile Subscriber Growth Falls to Sixth Successive Low

Quarterly net additions in the European mobile market moved to their highest level so far in 2008 in the third quarter, hitting 13.7m, after 9.8m and 11.0m in the first two quarters respectively. Proportionate growth followed suit, climbing to 1.8%, from 1.3% and 1.5% in the two prior periods.  more

Fitch Revises Chunghwa Telecom's Outlook to Negative

Debt ratings agency, Fitch Ratings has affirmed Taiwan's Chunghwa Telecom's (CHT) Long-term foreign and local currency Issuer Default Ratings (IDR) at 'AA', and revised the Outlook to Negative from Stable. Fitch has also affirmed CHT's National Long-term rating at 'AAA(twn)' with a Stable Outlook.  more
