Cost of Supporting Mobile Broadband is Eroding Subscriber Profitability
Mobile broadband services are more expensive to support than any other wireless service and are endangering subscriber profitability for many mobile network operators concludes a new study from WDSGlobal. The study found that the cost to support mobile broadband products and services is up to 200% greater than the cost to support traditional wireless products such as mobile phones. This means that despite revenue uplift from increased data usage, actual subscriber profitability often remains unchanged and sometimes even worsens. more

Verizon Communications Quarterly Profit up 5.3%
Verizon Communications has reported that its first-quarter revenues jumped 11.6 percent to US$26.6 billion, compared with the first quarter 2008 - largely thanks to the acquisition of Alltel earlier this year. Excluding the Alltel boost, revenues would have grown by 3.3 percent. more

Azercell Expands LiveScreen Media Service
Azerbaijan based mobile network, Azercell Telekom is to expand its Celltick-operated idle screen broadcast channel to its entire customer base. The service, called "Simurq' which is powered by Celltick's LiveScreen Media platform was originally launched to a limited audience of 300,000. Based on the arpu figures, Azercell has nominated Celltick to manage the service for the entire user base in cooperation with Unimark, a content aggregator in Azerbaijan. more
