Deutsche Telekom Issues Profits Warning - May Write Down T-Mobile Value
Deutsche Telekom has issued a profits warning, and now expects adjusted EBITDA in 2009 to be 2 to 4 percent below last year. The company is now expecting to post EBITDA in the range of EUR18.7 billion - EUR19.1 billionn (US$24.7 billionn) after an initial forecast of EUR19.5 billion. more

Telus Warns of Falling ARPU Due to Economic Downturn
Canada's Telus has warned that its first quarter wireless segment financial results are expected to be adversely impacted by lower than expected wireless net additions and average revenue per unit (arpu). Wireless operating results are being impacted by a weak macro-economic environment, reflect the acceleration of a negative trend first observed in the fourth quarter of 2008, and are below TELUS' expectations. more

South Africa Mobile Penetration Level Breaks the 100% Mark
The South African market broke through the 100% penetration barrier during Q3 08 to finish the quarter on 101.8%. The total market reached 44.51m customers. Annual growth slowed from 24.2% for the 12 months ending 30th September 2007 to 10.7% for the subsequent 12 months, the lowest rate since Q2 02. However, this rate was the same as that recorded in Q2 08, and in real terms annual growth rose quarter-on-quarter, from 4.18m to 4.30m. more

Mobile internet has undeniably turned a corner in 2008, showing
unprecedented growth levels. By 2012 a nine-fold increase in mobile broadband
revenues is expected. However, driven by peer to peer and video services,
traffic levels are expected to grow much faster to well over 20 times today's
volumes. These numbers are a wake-up call to mobile broadband providers. Clearly
demand is there, but is there also a sustainable business case?

MACH acquires Roaming Service Bureau (RSB) from WorldCell
Roaming services provider, MACH has acquired the Roaming Service Bureau (RSB) business from WorldCell. MACH says that the acquisition enables it to offer seamless voice and data roaming services to clients ranging from CDMA and GSM/UMTS operators to providers of WiMAX services. more

Belgacom - Regulatory Intervention Takes the Shine off a Good Operational Performance
Belgacom's Q3 financial report shows reduced revenues, reduced EBITDA and reduced profit, whether at the operating, pre-tax or after tax level. The 2.6% drop in revenue (to ¢â€š¬1,473m) became -4.7% at the EBITDA line (¢â€š¬503m) and this continued on down the P&L, with operating profit 6.0% lower and pre-tax off 8.1% at ¢â€š¬285m and ¢â€š¬215m respectively. more

China Mobile Subscriber Base Reaches 415 Million Customers
China Mobile Ltd., the Hong Kong listed subsidiary of China Mobile Communications has reported a 44.7% jump in first half profits after cutting prices to boost subscriber numbers, and a boost from tax changed. The company reported revenues of RMB196,460 million (US$28.7 billion), representing an increase of 17.9 per cent over the same period of last year. Profitability was significantly enhanced, and profit attributable to shareholders reached RMB54,849 million (US$8 billion) -- an increase of 44.7 per cent over the same period of last year due partly to change in PRC enterprise income tax rate. more
