DoCoMo Full-Year Profits Down 3.9%

Japan's NTT DoCoMo has reported a dip of 3.9% in its full fiscal year profits to reach ¥471.9 billion (US$4.93 billion), compared to ¥491.2 billion in the previous year. The average expected by analysts had been a rise in profits to around ¥499.5 billion, according to a Dow Jones Newswires report. Operating income saw a slight rise to ¥831 billion due to a decrease in cost of equipments resulting from decreased number of handsets sold.  more

Verizon Communications Quarterly Profit up 5.3%

Verizon Communications has reported that its first-quarter revenues jumped 11.6 percent to US$26.6 billion, compared with the first quarter 2008 - largely thanks to the acquisition of Alltel earlier this year. Excluding the Alltel boost, revenues would have grown by 3.3 percent.  more

Deutsche Telekom Issues Profits Warning - May Write Down T-Mobile Value

Deutsche Telekom has issued a profits warning, and now expects adjusted EBITDA in 2009 to be 2 to 4 percent below last year. The company is now expecting to post EBITDA in the range of EUR18.7 billion - EUR19.1 billionn (US$24.7 billionn) after an initial forecast of EUR19.5 billion.  more

Canada Sees Lowest 4th-Quarter Gain Since 1997

Despite the fact that the Canadian mobile market is probably the least developed in the Western world, with a penetration rate of just 63.9% at the end of 2008, it performed poorly in the fourth quarter of the year. Quarterly net additions stood at just under 410k, down from 580k in Q4 07. In fact, this was the smallest fourth-quarter gain since 1997. More worryingly still, this was the first year since 1990 that fourth-quarter net additions were not the highest of the year: the Q3 08 increase was more than 27% higher than the Q4 08 figure at 520k.  more

NII Holdings Full-Year Revenues Up 30%
