U.S. Core Wireless Services Remain Strong; Recession Impacts Expected in '09

According to Fitch Ratings' latest biannual wireless report, wireless results continue to demonstrate that core wireless services are relatively recession resistant and are best positioned to withstand economic pressures when compared to other telecommunication services. In addition to being viewed by consumers as a necessity-type service, recent growth for wireless communications has been fueled by aggressive smartphone promotions and strong uptake of data services.  more

U.S. Telecom and Cable Credit Profiles to Weaken in 2009

Debt ratings agency, Fitch has updated a ratings report issued last month and now says that it expects that revenue growth will be negatively impacted by growing local exchange carrier access line losses and cable basic subscriber losses. Additionally, business and commercial service revenue is expected to slow materially in 2009 as unemployment grows. Wireless, while still a source of revenue growth is expected by Fitch to feel pressures in 2009 due to further slowing of net additions, increased arpu pressure offset, in part by, positive momentum from increased wireless substitution of land lines.  more

Debt ratings agency, Fitch has issued a report where it says it believes that growing event risk associated with economic, competitive and regulatory pressures will weaken the credit profile of most operators within the U.S. telecommunications and cable sector in 2009. Growing unemployment, continuing home foreclosures, the acceleration of cord-cutting, evolution of wireless smart-phone-based data services, and a changing regulatory environment with a new Federal Communications Commission (FCC) make-up and key regulatory programs up for reform represent some of the challenges to the industry in 2009.  more

Telenor Ratings Downgraded to Negative Outlook on Indian Financing Woes

Fitch Ratings has revised Norway-based telecommunications provider Telenor's Outlook to Negative from Stable. At the same time the agency has affirmed Telenor's Long-term Issuer Default (IDR) and senior unsecured rating at 'BBB+' and affirmed the Short-term IDR at 'F2'.  more

Fitch Downgrades the Debt Ratings of Greece's WIND Hellas

Fitch Ratings has downgraded Greek mobile operator, WIND Hellas' Long-term Issuer Default Rating (IDR) to 'B-' (B minus) from 'B' on concerns about its leverage and future cashflow generation. The short-term rating is affirmed at 'B'. The outlook is Stable.  more

Fitch Affirms Sprint Nextel's IDR at 'BB+'; Outlook Negative

In addition, all of the ratings have been removed from Rating Watch Negative. The Rating Outlook on Sprint Nextel and its subsidiaries is Negative. Approximately $23 billion of debt is affected by Fitch's action.  more
