Aricent Introduces UMTS Baseband & WiMAX Base Station Software Solution

aricent says that it has launched its first UMTS baseband and WiMAX base station software solution based on the C programming language. The software is an implementation of core baseband modules which, combined with aricent software services, enables porting onto multiple semiconductor platforms including digital signaling processors (DSP) and field programmable gate arrays (FPGA).  more

A recent aricent study among frequent mobile phone users found that the vast majority are willing to sacrifice cost and quality of service in favor of convenience. The study found that phone users are keen to embrace converged services, which can include applications such as a single phone book and contact list for all devices. aricent's survey findings also indicate that despite the continuing emergence of new applications, the address book remains the primary 'killer application' on a mobile phone. more

Aricent Launches Cell-Site Aggregation Solution

aricent has launched a "Cell-Site Aggregation" solution, which it says will allow more cost-efficient Ethernet and IP connectivity for the deployment of next-generation mobile services. "As mobile operators begin to adapt radio access networks (RANs) to incorporate high-speed data services, the volume and cost of network traffic will grow dramatically," said Albert Lin, Co-Head Director of Research, American Technology Research. "Long lead times for additional backhaul leased lines present a major obstacle to entry. Cell-site aggregation solutions such as aricent's allow for the offload of traffic to more efficient and less expensive Ethernet and IP lines and are well positioned to see strong adoption." more

Aricent Providing R&D Services to Nokia Siemens Networks

aricent has announced R&D collaboration with Nokia Siemens Networks to provide product development, feature enhancement, sustenance and maintenance services for Nokia Siemens Networks 2G base station products. As part of this collaboration, aricent has announced the establishment of its third European software development centre at Southwood in the UK. The development centre will employ over 100 software professionals and in addition to serving the needs of Nokia Siemens Networks, the Southwood development centre will serve other aricent clients in Europe. more
