The near-term importance of new embedded-3G and embedded-WiMAX notebooks has been significantly over-estimated, according to a new research report published by Disruptive Analysis. Even in three year's time, laptops with built-in wireless access will only be used by 30% of total, active mobile broadband subscribers globally. External USB modems (or "dongles") will account for 58% - almost twice as many. more

UK Selling 27,000 Apple iPhone's Per Week
The 3G iPhone is achieving a market share in the UK handset market of between 4-6%, despite still being exclusive to just one mobile operator in the country. Sources told the UK trade magazine, Mobile Today that the company is stilling around 27,000 iPhone's per week - although that is down on the 50,000 per week sold when the handset was initially launched. more
O2 UK Offers Apple iPhone on Pre Pay Tariffs
O2 UK has announced that it is to offer the apple 3G iPhone on a Prepay tariff in a couple of weeks time. The 8GB model will be sold for £349.99 and £399.99 for the 16GB model. Prepay customers will also receive inclusive unlimited data and Wi-Fi for 12 months following activation, which company values at £120. more

O2 Fires Staff for Selling Apple iPhones on eBay
UK operator, O2 has reportedly sacked at least six staff who used their staff discount to buy apple iPhones - then later sold them on the eBay auction website for a significant profit. It's understood that the employees, all based in retail stores in London brought noticeable quantities of the handsets with a 20% staff discount - which triggered the investigation by O2 head office. A further twenty employees are being investigated. more
